Ryzen 9 5900X vs Core i5-11400 benchmarks

In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 9 5900X beats the Core i5-11400 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-11400 in all gaming tests too.

In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Ryzen 9 5900X has significantly more cores than the Core i5-11400. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5900X has 12 cores compared to 6 cores found in the Core i5-11400. It also has more threads than the Core i5-11400. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 9 5900X has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-11400. Also, the Ryzen 9 5900X has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i5-11400 outputs less heat than Ryzen 9 5900X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5900X has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i5-11400. The Ryzen 9 5900X also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5900X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
