Ryzen 9 5900HX vs Core i7-12700H specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Core i7-12700H beats the Ryzen 9 5900HX in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 9 5900HX in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Core i7-12700H has significantly more cores with 14 cores whereas the Ryzen 9 5900HX has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 9 5900HX. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 9 5900HX has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i7-12700H. Despite this, the Core i7-12700H has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5900HX has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
