Ryzen 9 5900 vs Ryzen 9 5950X comparison

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 5950X performs better than the Ryzen 9 5900. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 9 5900 in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Ryzen 9 5950X has slightly more cores with 16 cores whereas the Ryzen 9 5900 has 12 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 9 5900. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 9 5950X has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 9 5900. Also, the Ryzen 9 5950X has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 9 5900 CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen 9 5950X CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5950X has slightly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 9 5900. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5900 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
