Ryzen 9 3950X vs Ryzen 9 5900 benchmarks

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 3950X performs better than the Ryzen 9 5900. Despite this, the Ryzen 9 5900 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Ryzen 9 3950X has slightly more cores than the Ryzen 9 5900. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 3950X has 16 cores compared to 12 cores found in the Ryzen 9 5900. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 9 5900. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 9 3950X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 9 5900. In addition, both chips have the same turbo speed. The Ryzen 9 5900 outputs less heat than Ryzen 9 3950X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 9 3950X has slightly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 9 5900. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 3950X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
