Ryzen 9 3950X vs Core i9-12900H comparison
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 9 3950X beats the Core i9-12900H in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i9-12900H has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Ryzen 9 3950X has slightly more cores than the Core i9-12900H. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 3950X has 16 cores compared to 14 cores found in the Core i9-12900H. It also has more threads than the Core i9-12900H. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 9 3950X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i9-12900H. Despite this, the Core i9-12900H has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i9-12900H outputs less heat than Ryzen 9 3950X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 3950X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
