Ryzen 9 3900X vs Ryzen 9 7950X specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 7950X performs better than the Ryzen 9 3900X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 9 3900X in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Ryzen 9 7950X has slightly more cores with 16 cores whereas the Ryzen 9 3900X has 12 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 9 3900X. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 7950X has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 9 3900X. Also, the Ryzen 9 7950X has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 9 3900X CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen 9 7950X CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 7950X has significantly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 9 3900X. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 3900X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
