Ryzen 9 3900X vs Ryzen 9 5900X specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 5900X performs better than the Ryzen 9 3900X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 9 3900X in all gaming tests too.

Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 9 3900X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 9 5900X. Despite this, the Ryzen 9 5900X has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. When comparing cache sizes, these CPUs have an identical amount of L2 cache and L3 cache.

Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 3900X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
