Ryzen 9 3900X vs Ryzen 9 3950X benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 9 3950X beats the Ryzen 9 3900X in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 9 3900X in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Ryzen 9 3950X has slightly more cores than the Ryzen 9 3900X. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 3950X has 16 cores compared to 12 cores found in the Ryzen 9 3900X. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 9 3900X. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 9 3900X has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 9 3950X. Despite this, the Ryzen 9 3950X has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 9 3950X has slightly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 9 3900X. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 3900X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
