Ryzen 9 3900X vs Core i7-12700 benchmarks

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i7-12700 is faster than the Ryzen 9 3900X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 9 3900X in all gaming tests too.

Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores but the Ryzen 9 3900X has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 9 3900X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Core i7-12700. Despite this, the Core i7-12700 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i7-12700 outputs less heat than Ryzen 9 3900X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 3900X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
