Ryzen 7 8700G vs Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX comparison
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX beats the Ryzen 7 8700G in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 8700G has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX has significantly more cores with 24 cores compared to the Ryzen 7 8700G that has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 8700G. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 8700G has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX. Also, the Ryzen 7 8700G has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 7 8700G CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 7 8700G. The Ryzen Threadripper 2970WX also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 8700G has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
