Ryzen 7 7700 vs Core i9-14900HX benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Core i9-14900HX beats the Ryzen 7 7700 in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 7700 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i9-14900HX has significantly more cores with 24 cores compared to the Ryzen 7 7700 that has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 7700. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 7700 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i9-14900HX. Despite this, the Core i9-14900HX has a slightly higher turbo speed. In terms of cache, the Core i9-14900HX has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 7 7700. The Core i9-14900HX also has slightly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 7700 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
