Ryzen 7 6800HS vs Ryzen 5 8640HS benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 5 8640HS performs better than the Ryzen 7 6800HS. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 6800HS in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 7 6800HS has slightly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Ryzen 5 8640HS that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 8640HS. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 8640HS has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 7 6800HS. Also, the Ryzen 5 8640HS has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 5 8640HS outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 6800HS thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 5 8640HS has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 7 6800HS. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 6800HS has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
