Ryzen 7 5800X vs Ryzen 7 9700X benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 9700X beats the Ryzen 7 5800X in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 5800X in all gaming tests too.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores and the same number of threads. In terms of clock speed, the Ryzen 7 5800X and Ryzen 7 9700X are identical in this regard. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 9700X has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 7 9700X outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 5800X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 9700X has significantly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 7 5800X. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 5800X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
