Ryzen 7 5800X vs Core i5-12600HX specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i5-12600HX performs better than the Ryzen 7 5800X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 5800X in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Core i5-12600HX has significantly more cores with 12 cores compared to the Ryzen 7 5800X that has 8 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 5800X has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i5-12600HX. Also, the Ryzen 7 5800X has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i5-12600HX outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 5800X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Core i5-12600HX has more L2 cache than the Ryzen 7 5800X. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 5800X has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Core i5-12600HX.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 5800X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
