Ryzen 7 5800X vs Core i5-12500 comparison

In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 5800X beats the Core i5-12500 in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-12500 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

With info from our database, we find that the Ryzen 7 5800X has slightly more cores with 8 cores whereas the Core i5-12500 has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i5-12500. The Core i5-12500 outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 5800X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 5800X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
