Ryzen 7 5800X vs Core 2 Quad Q9400 comparison
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 5800X beats the Core 2 Quad Q9400 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core 2 Quad Q9400 in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 7 5800X has significantly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Core 2 Quad Q9400 that has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core 2 Quad Q9400. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 5800X has a much higher clock speed than the Core 2 Quad Q9400. The Core 2 Quad Q9400 outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 5800X thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core 2 Quad Q9400 has significantly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 7 5800X
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 5800X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
