Ryzen 7 5800U vs Ryzen 5 8600G specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 5 8600G performs better than the Ryzen 7 5800U. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 5800U in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 7 5800U has slightly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Ryzen 5 8600G that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 8600G. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 8600G has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 7 5800U. Also, the Ryzen 5 8600G has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 7 5800U CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen 5 8600G CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 8600G has significantly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 7 5800U. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 5800U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
