Ryzen 7 5800U vs Core i7-9800X comparison

In our benchmarks, the Core i7-9800X beats the Ryzen 7 5800U in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 5800U has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-9800X has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 7 5800U. Furthermore, both these CPUs have identical turbo speeds. A Ryzen 7 5800U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i7-9800X CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 5800U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
