Ryzen 7 5800U vs Core i5-1235U benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 5800U beats the Core i5-1235U in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-1235U in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Core i5-1235U has slightly more cores with 10 cores whereas the Ryzen 7 5800U has 8 cores. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 5800U has more threads than the Core i5-1235U. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 5800U has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i5-1235U. In addition, both chips have the same turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Ryzen 7 5800U has more L2 cache than the Core i5-1235U. The Ryzen 7 5800U also has slightly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 5800U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
