Ryzen 7 5800H vs Core i9-12900HK benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Core i9-12900HK beats the Ryzen 7 5800H in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 5800H in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Core i9-12900HK has significantly more cores than the Ryzen 7 5800H. Indeed, the Core i9-12900HK has 14 cores compared to 8 cores found in the Ryzen 7 5800H. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 5800H. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 5800H has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i9-12900HK. Despite this, the Core i9-12900HK has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i9-12900HK has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 7 5800H. The Core i9-12900HK also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 5800H has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
