Ryzen 7 4800U vs Ryzen 5 Microsoft Surface Edition benchmarks

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Ryzen 7 4800U is faster than the Ryzen 5 Microsoft Surface Edition. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 Microsoft Surface Edition in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 7 4800U has slightly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Ryzen 5 Microsoft Surface Edition that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 Microsoft Surface Edition. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 Microsoft Surface Edition has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 7 4800U. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 4800U has slightly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 5 Microsoft Surface Edition. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 4800U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
