Ryzen 7 3800X vs Ryzen Threadripper 1950X benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X beats the Ryzen 7 3800X in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 3800X has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X has significantly more cores with 16 cores compared to the Ryzen 7 3800X that has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 3800X. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 3800X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X. Also, the Ryzen 7 3800X has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 7 3800X CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen Threadripper 1950X CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Ryzen Threadripper 1950X has more L2 cache than the Ryzen 7 3800X. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 3800X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
