Ryzen 7 3800X vs Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme performs better than the Ryzen 7 3800X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 3800X in all gaming tests too.

Info from our database shows that they both have the same core count and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 3800X has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme. Despite this, the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 3800X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 7 3800X. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 3800X has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 3800X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
