Ryzen 7 3800X vs Core i5-12450HX benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 3800X beats the Core i5-12450HX in overall performance. Despite this, the Core i5-12450HX has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Ryzen 7 3800X has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 3800X has a significantly higher clock speed than the Core i5-12450HX. Also, the Ryzen 7 3800X has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i5-12450HX outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 3800X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Core i5-12450HX has significantly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 7 3800X. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 3800X has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Core i5-12450HX.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 3800X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
