Ryzen 7 3700U vs Core i3-8100 benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 7 3700U performs better than the Core i3-8100. Despite this, the Core i3-8100 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores but the Ryzen 7 3700U has more threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i3-8100 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 7 3700U. A Ryzen 7 3700U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i3-8100 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 7 3700U has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Core i3-8100. Despite this, the Core i3-8100 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 7 3700U.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 3700U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
