Ryzen 7 2700X vs Xeon E5-2666 v3 benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 2700X beats the Xeon E5-2666 v3 in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E5-2666 v3 in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Xeon E5-2666 v3 has slightly more cores than the Ryzen 7 2700X. Indeed, the Xeon E5-2666 v3 has 10 cores compared to 8 cores found in the Ryzen 7 2700X. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 2700X. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 2700X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-2666 v3. The info from our database shows that the Ryzen 7 2700X has more L2 cache than the Xeon E5-2666 v3. Despite this, the Xeon E5-2666 v3 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 7 2700X.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 2700X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
