Ryzen 7 2700X vs Ryzen AI 5 340 specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen AI 5 340 performs better than the Ryzen 7 2700X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 2700X in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 7 2700X has slightly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Ryzen AI 5 340 that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen AI 5 340. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 2700X has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen AI 5 340. Despite this, the Ryzen AI 5 340 has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen AI 5 340 outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 2700X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen AI 5 340 has significantly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 7 2700X. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 2700X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
