Ryzen 7 2700X vs Ryzen 9 8940HX specs and performance
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Ryzen 9 8940HX is faster than the Ryzen 7 2700X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 2700X in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Ryzen 9 8940HX has significantly more cores with 16 cores whereas the Ryzen 7 2700X has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 2700X. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 2700X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 9 8940HX. Despite this, the Ryzen 9 8940HX has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 9 8940HX outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 2700X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. When comparing cache sizes, these CPUs have an identical amount of L2 cache. The Ryzen 7 2700X also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 2700X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
