Ryzen 7 2700X vs Ryzen 9 5900X benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 5900X performs better than the Ryzen 7 2700X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 2700X in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Ryzen 9 5900X has significantly more cores with 12 cores whereas the Ryzen 7 2700X has 8 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 7 2700X. According to our data, the Ryzen 7 2700X and Ryzen 9 5900X have the same clock speed. Despite this, the Ryzen 9 5900X has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5900X has significantly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 7 2700X. The Ryzen 9 5900X also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 2700X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
