Ryzen 7 2700X vs Ryzen 5 8500G comparison

In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 2700X beats the Ryzen 5 8500G in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 8500G has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Ryzen 7 2700X has slightly more cores than the Ryzen 5 8500G. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 2700X has 8 cores compared to 6 cores found in the Ryzen 5 8500G. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 8500G. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 2700X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 5 8500G. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 8500G has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 5 8500G outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 2700X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 8500G has significantly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 7 2700X. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 2700X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
