Ryzen 7 2700U vs FX-8320 benchmarks

In our benchmarks, the FX-8320 beats the Ryzen 7 2700U in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 2700U has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores and the same number of threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the FX-8320 has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 7 2700U. A Ryzen 7 2700U CPU outputs less heat than a FX-8320 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the FX-8320 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 7 2700U. The FX-8320 also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 2700U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
