Ryzen 7 2700U vs Core i3-8100 specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Core i3-8100 performs better than the Ryzen 7 2700U. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 2700U in all gaming tests too.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Ryzen 7 2700U has more threads. Our comparison shows that the Core i3-8100 has a significantly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 7 2700U. Despite this, the Ryzen 7 2700U has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 7 2700U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i3-8100 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 2700U has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i3-8100. Despite this, the Core i3-8100 has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 7 2700U.

The more cores a CPU has, the better the overall performance will be in parallel workloads such as multitasking. Many CPUs have more threads than cores, this means that each physical core is split into multiple logical cores, making them more efficient. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 2700U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
