Ryzen 7 1800X vs Core i7-6700K specs and performance

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Ryzen 7 1800X is faster than the Core i7-6700K. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-6700K in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Ryzen 7 1800X has significantly more cores with 8 cores whereas the Core i7-6700K has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i7-6700K. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i7-6700K has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 7 1800X. Also, the Core i7-6700K has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The info from our database shows that the Ryzen 7 1800X has more L2 cache than the Core i7-6700K. The Ryzen 7 1800X also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 1800X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
