Ryzen 7 1700X vs Ryzen 7 5800X benchmarks
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 7 5800X performs better than the Ryzen 7 1700X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 1700X in all gaming tests too.
When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 7 5800X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 7 1700X. Also, the Ryzen 7 5800X has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 7 1700X CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen 7 5800X CPU because of its slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, both these CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache. The Ryzen 7 5800X also has significantly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 1700X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
