Ryzen 7 1700X vs Ryzen 5 5500GT comparison

In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 1700X beats the Ryzen 5 5500GT in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 5500GT has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 7 1700X has significantly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Ryzen 5 5500GT that has 3 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 5500GT. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 5 5500GT has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 7 1700X. Also, the Ryzen 5 5500GT has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Ryzen 5 5500GT outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 1700X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 7 1700X has slightly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 5 5500GT. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 1700X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
