Ryzen 7 1700X vs Core i5-12500H comparison
In our benchmarks, the Core i5-12500H beats the Ryzen 7 1700X in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 7 1700X in all gaming tests too.
With info from our database, we find that the Core i5-12500H has significantly more cores with 12 cores whereas the Ryzen 7 1700X has 8 cores. But they both have the same number of threads. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 7 1700X has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Core i5-12500H. Despite this, the Core i5-12500H has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i5-12500H outputs less heat than Ryzen 7 1700X thanks to a significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Core i5-12500H has slightly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 7 1700X. The Core i5-12500H also has slightly more L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 1700X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
