Ryzen 7 1700 vs Ryzen 3 4100 comparison

In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 7 1700 beats the Ryzen 3 4100 in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 3 4100 has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Ryzen 7 1700 has significantly more cores than the Ryzen 3 4100. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 1700 has 8 cores compared to 4 cores found in the Ryzen 3 4100. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 3 4100. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 3 4100 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 7 1700. Also, the Ryzen 3 4100 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, the Ryzen 7 1700 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 3 4100. The Ryzen 7 1700 also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 1700 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
