Ryzen 7 1700 vs Core i7-7700 specs and performance

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Ryzen 7 1700 is faster than the Core i7-7700. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-7700 in all gaming tests too.

With info from our database, we find that the Ryzen 7 1700 has significantly more cores with 8 cores whereas the Core i7-7700 has 4 cores. It also has more threads than the Core i7-7700. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i7-7700 has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 7 1700. Also, the Core i7-7700 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 1700 has significantly more L2 cache than the Core i7-7700. The Ryzen 7 1700 also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 1700 has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
