Ryzen 5 8500G vs Ryzen 7 8700G benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Ryzen 7 8700G is faster than the Ryzen 5 8500G. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 8500G in all gaming tests too.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 7 8700G has slightly more cores with 8 cores compared to the Ryzen 5 8500G that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 8500G. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 7 8700G has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 5 8500G. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 8700G has slightly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 5 8500G. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 8500G has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
