Ryzen 5 5600X vs Ryzen 9 5900X specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 9 5900X performs better than the Ryzen 5 5600X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 5600X in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 9 5900X has significantly more cores with 12 cores compared to the Ryzen 5 5600X that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 5600X. In terms of clock speed, the Ryzen 5 5600X and Ryzen 9 5900X are identical in this regard. Despite this, the Ryzen 9 5900X has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 5 5600X CPU outputs less heat than a Ryzen 9 5900X CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 9 5900X has significantly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 5 5600X. The Ryzen 9 5900X also has significantly more L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 5600X has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
