Ryzen 5 5500U vs FX-6300 comparison

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 5 5500U performs better than the FX-6300. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the FX-6300 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Ryzen 5 5500U has significantly more cores with 6 cores compared to the FX-6300 that has 3 cores. It also has more threads than the FX-6300. With our hardware info, we find that the FX-6300 has a significantly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 5 5500U. In terms of cache, the FX-6300 has significantly more L2 cache when compared to the Ryzen 5 5500U. However, both these chips have the same amount of L3 cache.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 5500U has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
