Ryzen 5 4500U vs Core i7-7700HQ benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Ryzen 5 4500U beats the Core i7-7700HQ in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i7-7700HQ in all gaming tests too.
In terms of the number of cores of each of these CPUs, the Ryzen 5 4500U has significantly more cores than the Core i7-7700HQ. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 4500U has 6 cores compared to 4 cores found in the Core i7-7700HQ. Despite this, the Core i7-7700HQ has more threads than the Ryzen 5 4500U. Our comparison shows that the Core i7-7700HQ has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 5 4500U. A Ryzen 5 4500U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i7-7700HQ CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Ryzen 5 4500U has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
