Ryzen 5 4500U vs Core i5-12400 benchmarks
In our benchmarks, the Core i5-12400 beats the Ryzen 5 4500U in overall performance. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 4500U in all gaming tests too.
Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores but the Core i5-12400 has more threads. These CPUs have different clock speeds. Indeed, the Core i5-12400 has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Ryzen 5 4500U. A Ryzen 5 4500U CPU outputs less heat than a Core i5-12400 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Ryzen 5 4500U has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
