Ryzen 5 3600XT vs Xeon E5-2640 v4 specs and performance

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 5 3600XT performs better than the Xeon E5-2640 v4. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Xeon E5-2640 v4 in all gaming tests too.

When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-2640 v4 has significantly more cores with 10 cores compared to the Ryzen 5 3600XT that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 3600XT. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 3600XT has a significantly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-2640 v4. Also, the Ryzen 5 3600XT has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Xeon E5-2640 v4 outputs less heat than Ryzen 5 3600XT thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 3600XT has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
