Ryzen 5 3550H vs Core i5-8279U benchmarks
According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Ryzen 5 3550H is faster than the Core i5-8279U. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Core i5-8279U in all gaming tests too.
Our spec comparison shows that they have an identical amount of cores and the same number of threads. With our hardware info, we find that the Core i5-8279U has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 5 3550H. Also, the Core i5-8279U has a slightly higher turbo speed. The Core i5-8279U outputs less heat than Ryzen 5 3550H thanks to a slightly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. Indeed, the Ryzen 5 3550H has more threads than cores. Each physical core is split into multiple threads.
