Ryzen 5 3500X vs Xeon E5-2690 comparison

Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Xeon E5-2690 performs better than the Ryzen 5 3500X. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 3500X has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.

With info from our database, we find that the Xeon E5-2690 has slightly more cores with 8 cores whereas the Ryzen 5 3500X has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 3500X. Our comparison shows that the Ryzen 5 3500X has a slightly higher clock speed compared to the Xeon E5-2690. Also, the Ryzen 5 3500X has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 5 3500X CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2690 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.

Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Ryzen 5 3500X has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
