Ryzen 5 3500X vs Xeon E5-2680 v4 comparison
In our benchmarks, the Xeon E5-2680 v4 beats the Ryzen 5 3500X in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 3500X has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-2680 v4 has significantly more cores with 14 cores compared to the Ryzen 5 3500X that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 3500X. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 3500X has a significantly higher clock speed than the Xeon E5-2680 v4. Also, the Ryzen 5 3500X has a slightly higher turbo speed. A Ryzen 5 3500X CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2680 v4 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Ryzen 5 3500X has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
