Ryzen 5 3500X vs Xeon E5-2678 v3 specs and performance
In our benchmarks, the Xeon E5-2678 v3 beats the Ryzen 5 3500X in overall performance. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 3500X has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
When comparing core counts for these CPUs, we notice that the Xeon E5-2678 v3 has significantly more cores with 12 cores compared to the Ryzen 5 3500X that has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 3500X. A Ryzen 5 3500X CPU outputs less heat than a Xeon E5-2678 v3 CPU because of its significantly lower TDP. This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Ryzen 5 3500X has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
