Ryzen 5 3500X vs Ryzen 7 1700 specs and performance
Our benchmark analysis concludes that the Ryzen 7 1700 performs better than the Ryzen 5 3500X. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 3500X has the advantage in our gaming benchmark.
With info from our database, we find that the Ryzen 7 1700 has slightly more cores with 8 cores whereas the Ryzen 5 3500X has 6 cores. It also has more threads than the Ryzen 5 3500X. With our hardware info, we find that the Ryzen 5 3500X has a slightly higher clock speed than the Ryzen 7 1700. Also, the Ryzen 5 3500X has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. The cache sizes of these CPUs are different. Indeed, the Ryzen 7 1700 has slightly more L2 cache than the Ryzen 5 3500X. Despite this, the Ryzen 5 3500X has significantly more L3 cache compared to the Ryzen 7 1700.
Most CPUs have more threads than cores. This technology, colloquially called hyperthreading, improves performance by splitting a core into multiple virtual ones. This provides more efficient utilisation of a core. For instance, the Ryzen 5 3500X has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
