Ryzen 5 3500X vs Core i5-11400 specs and performance

According to the hardwareDB Benchmark tool, the Core i5-11400 is faster than the Ryzen 5 3500X. Furthermore, our gaming benchmark shows that it also outperforms the Ryzen 5 3500X in all gaming tests too.

When comparing these CPUs we notice that they have the same number of cores but the Core i5-11400 has more threads. Both the Ryzen 5 3500X and Core i5-11400 have the same clock speed. Despite this, the Core i5-11400 has a slightly higher turbo speed. Both these chips have an identical TDP (Thermal Design Power). This measures the amount of heat they output and can be used to estimate power consumption. In terms of cache, both these CPUs have the same amount of L2 cache. The Ryzen 5 3500X also has significantly more L3 cache.

Modern CPUs generally have more logical cores than physical cores, this means that each core is split into multiple virtual cores, improving efficiency for parallel workloads. For instance, the Ryzen 5 3500X has the same number of threads as cores. This means the the CPU does not support hyperthreading.
